Creating humans and animals dough sculpt creating art

National-class dough sculptor Shih Jia Yung is making a rooster, which is a typical animal shape used in dough sculpting. The tradition of dough sculpting is rumored to have started from the Three Kingdoms period when Kung Ming caught and released a southern tribal leader seven times as he made rice balls to carry across a river. The balls were brought to Taiwan in the early 1900s and were referred to as sticky rice dolls. They were colored and used as offerings and edible treats after use, and later they were turned into an art form.
